My competency in this area lies at the intermediate level. My development in this area stemmed from taking coursework as a graduate student in student development theory. The class gave me the knowledge of different theories and allowed me to apply those in practice. I utilized this knowledge by applying theory to a fictional character for a classroom presentation. Outside of the classroom, completing individual graduation plans with students for TRiO SSS allowed me to work with students and see how those theories play out when working with students. My internship with McNair has allowed me to further develop in this area as I created a series of professional development workshops for students on the topics of personal branding and stress management.
